LANCASTER, Calif. – The offense was flowing for both sides as the 20th ranked Lions (10-7) and the University of Antelope Valley (6-9) squared off in a non-conference tilt hosted at The Hangar. A big spurt by both teams left the game with a 9-8 score favoring the Pioneers. Vanguard was led in hitting by Brandon Sandoval (SR/Fallbrook, CA) and Brock Eissman (SR/San Clemente, CA) both going 3-5 on the day. Michael Fuchs (JR/Irvine, CA) backed that up with a 2-5 day of his own, adding in two scored runs, and Josh Weeks (FR/Murrieta, CA) finished 2-4 inside the batter's box.
COSTA MESA, Calif. - For the second week in a row, the Golden State Athletic Conference Player of the Week resides at Vanguard. Trai Patrick (SR/Everett, WA) tallied nine hits in 14 chances, adding three walks on the week as well. The senior third baseman also recorded five RBI's and four extra base hits. He was instrumental in the Lions besting The Master's University 2-1 in the 3-game series. On the year, Patrick is leading the team with a .463 average including 25 total hits, six doubles, two home runs and 20 total RBI's.
SANTA CLARITA, Calif. – Vanguard, the preseason 20th ranked team in the NAIA, travel back up to The Master's University (6-10, 1-5) for a double-header to wrap up the weekend series. After securing a 7-3 victory on Thursday, the score of the first game was 13-2 in favor of the Mustangs. But, the Pride (10-5, 5-1) rallied back for a 5-4 victory to win the second game and edge out TMU, currently ranked 11th in the nation, 2-1 in the series.
SANTA CLARITA, Calif. – The Lions (9-4, 4-0) rebounded nicely from a midweek downer by taking on #11 ranked The Master's University (5-9, 0-4) for the first game of a weekend series. The three-game slate pushed the Blue and Gold on the road for the first series in Golden State Athletic Conference play.
COSTA MESA, Calif. — The Vanguard Lions (8-5) came off a weekend sweep and went head to head with Corban University (5-4). The Lions started off strong, taking the lead in the first inning, and seemed to have the game at the bottom of the sixth. Unfortunately, Vanguard fell to the Warriors in the top of the seventh and could come back. The ninth inning ended with Vanguard losing, 8-5.
COSTA MESA, Calif. – The first ballots for Conference Player of the Week have been submitted by the GSAC and Brock Eissman (SR/San Clemente, CA) takes home the first recognition. The junior slugger played in all four games for Vanguard last week (3-1) and rode a .625% batting average and .813% slugging to the award. He tallied three extra base hits and was 2-3 on stolen base attempts. During the double header on Sunday, Eissman was 6-8 from the batters box and struck out three batters during his lone inning on the mound. This marks the first time in his career that he has received POTW.
