FULLERTON, Calif. - The Vanguard men's and women's cross country squads switched up the schedule and traded in their usual early Saturday morning race for an afternoon meet hosted by Cal State Fullerton. The Titan Invitational hosted both NCAA Division I and NAIA schools. In their respective fields, the Lion men side finished fifth out of 10 teams and the women sporting the Blue and Gold finished sixth amongst eight teams.
ORANGE, Calif. - Vanguard broke with tradition this year hosting its 26th Annual Invitational at Irvine Regional Park rather than historical Fairview Park in Costa Mesa where the meet had been held since 1999. A total of twelve teams were represented with nine posting scores in the team standings. The VU women finished eighth overall and the men finished fourth. Capturing team honors in the women's race was NAIA 18th ranked Lewis-Clark State (Idaho) with an upset victory over ninth ranked Westmont College by nine points (43-52). In the men's race the same two teams battled for the title again with NAIA 17th ranked Westmont College coming out on top with a mild upset over 15th ranked Lewis-Clark State by 10 points (42-52). Claiming individual honors for the women was Sophomore Alyssa Allen (Orange Coast College) with a winning 5k time of 18:33. Crossing the line first for the men was Freshman Michael Oldach (Westmont College) who clocked in with a 25:43 8k time.
SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. - The Lions raced early Saturday morning at the Coyote Invitational on the campus of Cal State University San Bernardino. At the conclusion of the meet, Zach Hunt and Jeronimo Brito (JR/Riverside, CA) stood for the Top 15 awards ceremony.
RIVERSIDE, Calif. - The Vanguard women had a big day improving their team time four minutes and nine seconds from two weeks ago when they competed at the Mark Covert Classic hosted by CSU Fullerton. The Lions raced to a composite team time of 1:43:12 (bettering their previous effort of 1:47:21). Junior transfer Morgan Tapia (JR/Eastville, CA) lead the way with a time of 19:46 (a 1:13 improvement over her previous best this season) followed by Bayleigh Porter (SR/Riverside, CA) 20:31 (season best), Lauren Soholt (SR/Riverside, CA) 20:53 (personal best), Sarah Finch (SR/Redondo Beach, CA) 20:57 (season best), Bethany Hinson (FR/Santa Clarita, CA) 21:05 (personal best) and Addie Blair 21:12 (season best). Finch recorded the biggest margin of improvement from the previous race, bettering her 5k time by 1:28. The women's team time bettered all their performances from last season as well.
BREA, Calif. – Vanguard Cross Country kicked off their seven meet slate with the 32nd Annual Mark Covert Classic hosted by Cal State University – Fullerton at Carbon Canyon Regional Park. The Lions sent out five runners on each side and finished the day with both new additions on the men's team earning personal best times.
COSTA MESA, Calif. - Gearing up for the 2016-2017 campaign, Vanguard University Cross Country and Track & Field has released their newest recruiting class to the Southern California campus. The 16 incoming athletes will join 14 returning members of the men's team and eight on the women's side.
The season begin in the Fall when the Cross Country squad heads up to running camp in Mammoth Lakes, CA from August 11th-18th before competing in their first official meet on Saturday, September 3rd at 8:00 a.m. They will take part in the Adidas U.C. Irvine Invitational on the UCI ARC Fields course.
