SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - The Lions captured 3rd place finishes in both the Men's and Women's team standings at the Golden State Athletic Conference Track & Field Championship hosted by Westmont College Thursday and Friday. Junior Winston Lawson (FR/Santa Ana, CA) led the Men with a team high 26.25 points while freshman Lydia Perrigo (FR/Hartsburg, MO) paced the women with 24 points. The Men's team finished with 126.5 points (an all-time high score for the men's program) and the women landed with a team score of 80.5 points. For the first time in program history every single Vanguard competitor (for both the men and women) scored points for the Lions.
Starting this Thursday and continuing until Friday, April 29th, the Golden State Athletic Conference will host its yearly Track & Field Championships at Westmont College in Santa Barbara, California. The two-day event will feature all the teams within the GSAC and will determine the final list of those who will win All-Conference recognition and earn a trip the the NAIA Outdoor National Championship.
COSTA MESA, Calif. - The Golden State Athletic Conference has released the 2015 awards for men's and women's cross country. Vanguard was represented four times on the Scholar Athlete Teams. All of the Lions are first time winners.
AZUSA, Calif. - Winston Lawson (FR/Santa Ana, CA) scored 6,676 points in the ten-event decathlon competition at the California Invitational Combined Events hosted by Azusa Pacific University Wednesday & Thursday, finishing second overall among 16 competitors in his division. Lawson's mark currently ranks first in the NAIA this season and is Vanguard's second best all-time score in the decathlon. The rest of the team competed Thursday and Friday, April 14th and 15th, at Azusa Pacific in the 8th Annual Bryan Clay Invitational.
POMONA, Calif. - The Lion Track and Field teams traveled to the 30th Annual Pomona-Pitzer Invitational hosted by Pomona College where 13 personal bests were recorded including four individuals who posted two each. Lauren Cooper recorded life time bests in the 100m (13.61) and hammer throw (104'10") while on the men's side Noah Eley (FR/Huntington Beach, CA) chalked up personal bests in the 200m (22.74) and 400m (51.02), Zach Allmon (FR/San Luis Obispo, CA) (JR/San Luis Obispo, CA) shot put (40'2.75") and triple jump (39'0.5"), and Zac Way (FR/Lakewood, CA) (JR/Lakewood, CA) javelin (147'4") and 110m hurdlers (21.75). Other personal bests were recorded by Lauren Soholt (SO/Riverside, CA) (JR/Riverside, CA) in the 5,000m (20:08.49), Daphni Kilgore (SR/Phoenix, AZ) 400m hurdles (76.11), Nathan Miramontes (FR/Fullerton, CA) (SO/Fullerton, CA) long jump (19'1.25"), Alex Alvarez (FR/Corona, CA) shot put (34'8.5") and Kerollos Makramalla (SO/Bellflower, CA) javelin (113'8"). The VU Men's 4x100m relay team raced to a season best time of 42.21 while finishing 4th overall and 1st among NAIA teams. The relay team was made up of Alec Duran (FR/La Verne, CA), Winston Lawson (JR/Santa Ana, CA) (FR/Santa Ana, CA), Daniel Alade (NA/Bakersfield, CA) (FR/Bakersfield, CA) and Quinton Alexander (SR/Las Vegas, NV).
SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – The Vanguard Lions Track and Field teams traveled up to Northern California last weekend to compete in the San Francisco State Invitational hosted on the Gators' home track. During the two-day meet, Zach Allmon (FR/San Luis Obispo, CA) (JR/San Luis Obispo, CA) (FR/San Luis Obispo, CA) (JR/San Luis Obispo, CA), Lydia Perrigo (FR/Hartsburg, MO), and Daphni Kilgore (SR/Phoenix, AZ) recorded personal records and three other season bests were established.
