SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - The Lions captured 3rd place finishes in both the Men's and Women's team standings at the Golden State Athletic Conference Track & Field Championship hosted by Westmont College Thursday and Friday. Junior Winston Lawson (FR/Santa Ana, CA) led the Men with a team high 26.25 points while freshman Lydia Perrigo (FR/Hartsburg, MO) paced the women with 24 points. The Men's team finished with 126.5 points (an all-time high score for the men's program) and the women landed with a team score of 80.5 points. For the first time in program history every single Vanguard competitor (for both the men and women) scored points for the Lions.
COSTA MESA, Calif. - The Golden State Athletic Conference has released the 2015 awards for men's and women's cross country. Vanguard was represented four times on the Scholar Athlete Teams. All of the Lions are first time winners.
EAGLEROCK, Calif. - In a final effort to qualify for the NAIA Outdoor National Track & Field Championships, the VU men's 4x100m Relay team of Alec Duran (FR/La Verne, CA), Winston Lawson (FR/Santa Ana, CA), Daniel Alade (FR/Bakersfield, CA) and Quinton Alexander (SR/Las Vegas, NV) finished 2nd overall in a season best time of 42.13 but came up just 6/10th's of a second shy of the automatic qualifying standard. Junior Zach DeAtley (JR/Victorville, CA) (who is already qualified for NAIA Nationals in the Marathon) took a final shot at the 3,000m Steeplechase and raced to a career best and qualifying time of 9:31.05 finishing 8th place in Section 2 of the highly competitive field.
The Vanguard University Track & Field teams have celebrated the end of the season portion of the calendar by recognizing the award winners in 12 categories including Athlete of the Year, Most Improved, Newcomer, Most Inspirational, Champions of Character, Team Captain Leadership, All-Americans, All-GSAC, Scholar-Athlete, Four Year Lettermans, School Records, and Team of Character.
COSTA MESA, Calif. – The Golden State Athletic Conference has formally announced the winners of the 2016 GSAC Scholar Athlete Awards. The qualifications necessary for the award are to be of junior or senior standing academically and to hold a cumulative grade point average of 3.50 of higher.
Starting this Thursday and continuing until Friday, April 29th, the Golden State Athletic Conference will host its yearly Track & Field Championships at Westmont College in Santa Barbara, California. The two-day event will feature all the teams within the GSAC and will determine the final list of those who will win All-Conference recognition and earn a trip the the NAIA Outdoor National Championship.
