Randy Dodge enters his sixth year as Vanguard's Director of Soccer. He has led Vanguard's women's soccer program to a 51-24-19 overall record in his first five seasons with the VU women. He is also in his tenth season as VU's men's head coach, accumulating a 99-61-17 overall record in his first nine seasons. Dodge graduated from Vanguard University (then Southern California College) with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Biblical Studies in 1993, and earned a Master's degree in Education in 1998 from California State University San Bernardino. During his years as a student-athlete at Vanguard University, he played for Coach Dave McLeish, who left VU after a 16-year coaching stint with the Lions. Dodge was a four-year player, served as team captain, and was selected to play in the Golden State Athletic Conference All-Star game as a senior.
Coach Dodge and the Lions are coming off at 2010 season that saw VUSC finish with an 8-6-4 overall record, and a 2-5-3 mark in GSAC play. Dodge had one All-GSAC player (Ivana Mendez) and one GSAC Scholar-Athlete (Jesse Castro), and the Lions were named an NAIA Scholar Team, recognizing the program for a team-GPA of 3.30. In 2009, Dodge led the VU Women to perhaps the finest season in program history, including Vanguard's first NAIA National Tournament appearance for the Women's program. The 2009 Lions finished with a 13-2-6 overall record, and a 5-1-4 mark in GSAC play. The Pride won the GSAC Postseason tournament for the first time in school history as well, advanced to the second round of the NAIA tournament, and finished the season ranked No. 7 in the country. Dodge's crew was recognized nationally, with four NAIA All-Americans, four All-GSAC honorees, and one NAIA Scholar-Athlete.
Dodge began his coaching career at an early age, while still a student at Vanguard and a member of the Lions' soccer team. He has spent more than 20 years involved with boy's and girl's high school soccer and is currently the Director of Soccer and head coach for both teams at Aliso Niguel High School. Since 1997, his Aliso teams have won 11 League Championships and one State Championship while Dodge has compiled an overall soccer record of 360-100-74 at the high school level. In 2001, Dodge's team won the girl's Southern Section CIF division one title and he was named the LA Times HS Coach of the Year and the Student Sports Magazine National Coach of the Year.
Dodge is also a United States Soccer Federation "A" Licensed Coach and has applied 16 years coaching club soccer. Winning the National Championship U17, Dodge was also named the Cal South Nike Coach of the Year in 2011. Randy worked his way through the Olympic Development Program (ODP) with different age groups, serving as the head or assistant coach from 1995 to 2005.
In addition to his achievements and present positions at the high school and club level, Dodge helped in the development of the University of California, Irvine men's soccer program where he served as an assistant coach for three years in the late 1990's.
Randy and his wife Stephanie, a Vanguard alumna of 1994, reside in Aliso Viejo, California with their four children Chase (15), Tess (13), Blair (8), and Kendra (3).
