Baseball has wrapped up regular season play and will move on to postseason player next week. Softball completed their season in the GSAC Tournament and Track & Field has one more tune-up meet before the NAIA National Championships.

COSTA MESA, Calif. – Entering the final day of the regular season, 13th ranked Vanguard (38-13-1, 23-8) had much to celebrate as it was the final home game for 11 members of the Lions. Biola (28-25, 15-16) walked away with a 10-4 win in game one before the Blue and Gold won the second game and thus the series on a walk-off in the seventh inning.

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - The Lions captured 3rd place finishes in both the Men's and Women's team standings at the Golden State Athletic Conference Track & Field Championship hosted by Westmont College Thursday and Friday. Junior Winston Lawson (FR/Santa Ana, CA) led the Men with a team high 26.25 points while freshman Lydia Perrigo (FR/Hartsburg, MO) paced the women with 24 points. The Men's team finished with 126.5 points (an all-time high score for the men's program) and the women landed with a team score of 80.5 points. For the first time in program history every single Vanguard competitor (for both the men and women) scored points for the Lions.

COSTA MESA, Calif. – The 13th ranked Vanguard Lions (36-12, 21-7) bounced back from a rough outing the previous weekend by beating Biola (27-24, 14-14) with a score of 10-4. Sean Isaac (SR/Redondo Beach, CA) secured his 13th win of the season lasting six innings and striking out seven batters.

ATHERTON, Calif. – Continuing play in the GSAC Tournament, the Lions (34-22) were matched up with Arizona Christian (35-14-1) in the first game, a team they hadn't beat in four earlier tries. Game one ended with a similar results as VU fell in a tight contest. This moved the team to a fifth game of the year against San Diego Christian (33-16) with their season on the line. The Hawks ended up winning the contest by a 9-1 score.

ATHERTON, Calif. – In their first game of the 2016 GSAC Tournament hosted by Menlo College, the Lions (RV) (34-20) shutout the Warriors to gain a 4-0 win at Wunderlich Field. Vanguard was led by Taylor Doyle (SR/Oceanside, CA) (14-8) who threw a complete game and allowed only three hits. Today's win marks seven straight victories for the Blue and Gold.

Track & Field - Wed, Apr. 27, 2016

Starting this Thursday and continuing until Friday, April 29th, the Golden State Athletic Conference will host its yearly Track & Field Championships at Westmont College in Santa Barbara, California. The two-day event will feature all the teams within the GSAC and will determine the final list of those who will win All-Conference recognition and earn a trip the the NAIA Outdoor National Championship.

COSTA MESA, Calif. - The Golden State Athletic Conference released the 2016 All-GSAC Awards early Tuesday afternoon and the Lions were represented by Alexandra Olvera (SR/Gilroy, CA), Taylor Wilson (JR/Modesto, CA), and Kaitlin Estes (SO/Costa Mesa, CA). Olvera and Wilson grabbed two of the four at-large spots on the team and Estes was one of five infielders to make the squad. In total, 20 members make the list broken up in seven categories.

COSTA MESA, Calif. - The Vanguard softball team swept the Golden State Athletic Conference Player of the Week and Pitcher of the Week prizes for the second time this year. Samantha Shaffer (FR/Modesto, CA) takes home the first award in her young Lions career while Alexandra Olvera (SR/Gilroy, CA) earns the recognition of Pitcher of the Week for a second time in 2016.

COSTA MESA, Calif. - The Golden State Athletic Conference released its weekly awards and the Pitcher of the Week was presented to Sean Isaac (SR/Redondo Beach, CA). This is the first time this season he has taken home the award but has been in the nomination pool on a host of occasions. Isaac tossed ninth ranked Vanguard to victory holding The Master's College (RV) to only one run and striking out nine batters in eight innings of work. This season, the senior pitcher is third in the GSAC with a 2.01 ERA in 98.2 innings on the mound. He tops the GSAC and NAIA with 12 wins and has only one loss on the season.
