Hello everyone! My name is Kaitlyn Hawthorne (SO/Reno, NV) and I am a member of the women's basketball team here at Vanguard. I am so excited to continue my sophomore year of college wearing the Blue and Gold while expanding my knowledge in school, growing in my faith with God, and working hard on the court! Having been a redshirt last year, I am looking forward to competing hard to find a spot on the court as the preseason begins.

BUTTE, Mont. – Early season growing pains have afflicted the #9 Lions as they seek to replace the GSAC Player of the Year, three All-GSAC players, and two critical rotation players which is not made easy by the injury bug currently sweeping through the squad. In the final day of the Big Sky Challenge, Vanguard (1-8) was narrowly edged out 3-1 in dramatic sets against the University of Great Falls and then suffered a 3-0 knockout to #8 Eastern Oregon who is riding a six match streak of sweeping their opponents.

COLUMBIA, Kent. – Rounding out the final day of their preseason road-trip, 10th ranked Vanguard (0-2) had their second straight Top 10 tilt in just three days. This time they squared off against #2 Lindsey Wilson (2-0) in a heavyweight battle of teams who regularly make noise at the NAIA National Tournament. In this edition, the Blue Raiders exited with a 2-1 advantage over the Blue and Gold.

BUTTE, Mont. – Entering the second straight weekend of tournament play, the ninth rated Vanguard Lions (1-6) looked to turn the page at the Big Sky Challenge hosted at Montana Tech (5-1). Opening the four game slate with the home team, the Lions fell by a 3-0 count and then dropped a tough 3-1 matchup with 11th ranked College of Idaho (3-3).

PULASKI, Tenn. – The 2016 campaign for both squads opened up with a heavyweight matchup as #10 Vanguard University (0-1) visited #8 Martin Methodist College (1-0) in front of 345 enthusiastic fans. The nearly two hour match ended with a 4-2 count in favor of the Redhawks. Danyelle Allen (SR/San Clemente, CA) and Rayven Hernandez (JR/Rancho Santa Margarita, CA) recorded the first scores of the season for the Pride.

Big travel week ahead for Women's Soccer, currently 10th in the country, as they matchup against #2 Lindsey Wilson and #8 Martin Methodist. Likewise Volleyball, who sits at ninth in the nation, plays their second consecutive four match tournament this weekend in Montana.

LA MIRADA, Calif. – Friday was the final day of competition at the Biola Summer Slam, where ninth ranked Vanguard was matched up against #4 Viterbo University and #18 Southern Oregon. The close set losses of the previous day once again showed themselves as the Lions fell 3-1 against Viterbo and 3-0 versus Southern Oregon.

LA MIRADA, Calif. - Opening play at the Biola Red Lion-Anaheim Summer Slam, the Lions (1-2) - ranked ninth in the preseason Coaches' Top 25 Poll - were pitted against #6 Midland University (2-0) and #24 Northwestern College of Iowa (1-1). The Blue and Gold fought closely in both matches but ended up falling 0-3 in both competitions.

COSTA MESA, Calif. – The emotions ran high as the Lions (1-0) hit the court for the first time since last year's historic run. They welcomed La Sierra (0-1), who brought a large contingent of fans, into The Pit for the opening match of the year for both squads. Vanguard finished the night with a 3-0 set win (25-20,25-20,25-21), but was pushed to the limit in the final set needing to come from behind to complete the sweep.
