Costa Mesa, Calif. - Vanguard University men's basketball earns its second GSAC Player of the Week as Zach Allmon (SO/San Luis Obispo, CA) earns the award for the week of January 26, 2015.

Costa Mesa, Calif. – The Lions (13-8, 5-3) knocked off the 12th ranked Concordia Eagles (17-4, 6-2)  69-57 in front of a standing room only crowd in The Pit. Vanguard was led by a monster day from Zach Allmon (SO/San Luis Obispo, CA) slamming his way to 13 points and 15 rebounds. DeAngelo Jones (SR/Cheney, WA) went 7-7 from the charity stripe for 16 points and Chris Gorman (SR/Oceanside, CA) posted 16 points, seven assists and two steals while shooting 90% from the free throw line.

LA MIRADA, Calif. – Vanguard (5-1, 2-1 GSAC) came out strong in the first game of the day behind strong pitching winning 9-7, but was unable to complete the sweep as they fell to Biola (2-2, 1-2) in the second game 7-6. The Lions were still able to win the series and seem primed for a promising season.

LA MIRADA, Calif. – Getting his first taste of Golden State Athletic Conference play, Sean Isaac (SO/Redondo Beach, CA) pitched six strong innings to help Vanguard University defeat Biola University in La Mirada, as the Lions won by a score of 4-1. The Lions took the first game of the three game series behind the arm of the sophomore and through some aggressive base running. With the win Vanguard improves to 4-0 overall and 1-0 in Golden State Athletic Conference play.

Softball - Fri, Jan. 23, 2015

COSTA MESA, Calif. - Vanguard opened the 2015 softball season with a strong offensive showing, sweeping a non-conference doubleheader against La Sierra University 9-1 and 10-0 on Friday afternoon at the VU Softball Field.

The Lions (2-0 overall) came out firing in the twinbill, pounding out 19 runs to go with the 19 hits while holding the Golden Eagles (0-2) to just one run on six hits.

Costa Mesa, Calif.- Former Vanguard Lions All American and GSAC Player of the Year Horace Wormely is signed by Patriotas de Tunga from the Liga DirecTV 2. He is one of the top five players for the squad that is in Group B of the league.

Women's Basketball - Tue, Jan. 20, 2015

Costa Mesa, Calif. - The number 13 Lions (12-4) defeat Cal State University San Marcos 70-52 for the second time this season in a non-conference tilt on Tuesday evening. Riding an impressive first half, Amber Alexander (JR/Grand Blanc, MI) led all players with 24 points, 13 rebounds, and four blocks.

Samantha Doucette (JR/Irvine, CA) picked up the scoring after halftime to total 14 points; Riley Holsinger (JR/Spokane, WA) was just one rebound short of posting a double-double to go along with her three assists and five steals.

Costa Mesa, Calif. - In what could have been the GSAC game of the Week, #11 Vanguard and #9 Concordia couldnt settle things in the standard 40 minutes. It took OT until CUI would take the 88-83 victory, with many of the calls going against Vanguard in the final minutes. 

Riley Holsinger (JR/Spokane, WA) scored 27 points and grabbed 10 rebounds, going 17-21 from foul line. Samantah Doucette was her partner in crime, scoring 26 points on an efficient 10-18 shooting from the field. Amber Alexander (JR/Grand Blanc, MI) came up big with 10 rebounds and three steals, as her prescence was dearly missed after fouling out midway through the overtime period.

COSTA MESA, Calif. – For the third consecutive year, Vanguard hosted La Sierra on Martin Luther King Jr. Day. The Lions (3-0) finished with a dominant 7-0 victory over the Golden Eagles (1-2), making it the second consecutive shutout win for The Pride. Paul Keating (JR/Oceanside, CA) led Vanguard with two runs scored and two hits, including a triple in the sixth inning.  Catcher Kevin Bettencourt (JR/Modesto, CA) also had two hits to go along with two runs batted in.

Costa Mesa, Calif. – Vanguard (12-8, 4-3 GSAC) returned home and played a dominant game in a 60-47 win over Biola (13-7, 1-5 GSAC) in the Pit.  The Lions played lock-down defense and controlled the ball in the victory.
