Mobile, Ala. - Mobile Tennis Center - 32nd Annual NAIA Women's Tennis Championships - Capturing a well-deserved win in first round action, the 16th-seeded Vanguard Lions ran into a wall in the second round today at the 2012 NAIA Women's Tennis Championships in Mobile, Alabama. Taking on NAIA powerhouse Auburn Montgomery, winner of seven of the last eight national titles, the Lions lost 5-0 to the Defending NAIA Champion Warhawks.

Mobile, Ala. - Mobile Tennis Center - 32nd Annual NAIA Women's Tennis Championships - The No. 15-ranked Vanguard Lions stepped up to the challenge today at the 2012 NAIA Women's Tennis Championships in Mobile, Alabama. Seeded 16th in the 24-team, single-elimination tournament, the Lions defeated 17th-seeded Xavier University of Louisiana for the second time this season. Playing some of their best tennis of the year, the Lions extended their season with a 6-3 victory over the Gold Nuggets to advance to the second round of play. For their efforts the Vanguard women will face top-ranked Auburn-Montgomery (Ala.) tomorrow in the second round.

Costa Mesa, Calif. - The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics announced the qualifiers and bracket for the 2012 NAIA Men's Tennis National Championships this week after the release of the final NAIA poll of the season. No. 6-ranked Vanguard University, top-ranked Fresno Pacific, and four other Golden State Athletic Conference men's tennis teams will represent the GSAC at the NAIA Championships to be held from May 15-19 at the Mobile Tennis Center in Mobile, Alabama. The Vanguard Lions have drawn a first-round bye as one of the top eight seeds in the 61st Annual NAIA Men's NAIA Championships and will await Tuesday's first-round action to officially determine their second-round opponent.

Los Angeles, Calif. - 2012 Oxy Invitational - Occidental University - Competing the same day as Vanguard University's graduation, the Lions changed gears and headed to Los Angeles to compete at the Occidental Invitational. Freshman Cameron Barela and sophomore Kristine Grimes both rewrote Vanguard history with new personal bests and school record-breaking performances.

Irvine, Calif. - Eagles Field, Concordia University - Day two of the six-team CalPac/GSAC/Frontier Unaffiliated Grouping Tournament began with the Vanguard Lions defeating No. 3 Simpson University in the early game this morning to advance in the loser's bracket to face the No. 5-seeded Hope International Royals. With both teams looking at elimination, the teams battled back and forth until the Royals came out on top 8-5, ending Vanguard's season in the process.

Irvine, Calif. - After getting mercy-ruled in game one of the six-team CalPac/GSAC/Frontier Unaffiliated Grouping Tournament Thursday, the fourth-seeded Vanguard Lions staved off elimination with a 6-5 win over third-seeded Simpson University Friday at Eagles Field at Concordia University.

Costa Mesa, Calif.  - Vanguard University's Bryce Arroyo was selected to the 2012 All-GSAC Baseball team as announced this week by the Golden State Athletic Conference.  A third-year Lion from Brea, California made the all-conference squad for the first time in his Vanguard career.

Azusa, Calif. - 2012 GSAC Track and Field Championships at Azusa Pacific University - Azusa Pacific University hosted the GSAC Championships for the final time this weekend, as the Cougars will be moving to NCAA Division II next year. Two Vanguard Lion athletes claimed individual GSAC titles, while six Lions earned All-GSAC honors during the two-day event. In addition, three school records were broken and there were several new personal records among Vanguard's results. Highlighting the day were 400 meter Champion Kapree Nelson and 10,000 meter Champion Kimberly Kent.

Santa Barbara, Calif. - Russ Carr Field - Westmont College wiped away Vanguard University's baseball playoff hopes today with a double header sweep of the Lions. Coming from behind for a 10-9 victory in game one, the Warriors then defeated the Lions 8-2 to capture both games of the twinbill. The sweep, paired with Fresno Pacific's split with Concordia, dropped the Lions into a three-way tie for fifth and out of the playoff picture.
