Why choose to play basketball at Vanguard?

Vanguard University is a quality Christian University with a premier Men's Basketball program located in the heart of Orange County in Southern California. VU provides excellent opportunities for student athletes to grow academically, spiritually, and athletically.  Located in Costa Mesa, our campus is less than five miles from Newport Beach, and the weather is nearly perfect year-round. 

The Men's Basketball program has distinguished itself with a tradition of excellence:

  • In 2006, VUSC made its second NAIA National Tournament appearance.
  • The Lions have been crowned the Golden State Athletic Conference Champions three times.  
  • Vanguard MBB has finished in first or second place 8 of the 20 years the GSAC has been in existence.  
  • VU has had 10 NAIA All-Americans, 26 All-GSAC players, and 4 GSAC Players of the Year, including 2006's Horace Wormely.  
  • Numerous players have extended their careers in the US, Europe, Asia, and Australia.  
  • One player went on to play with the Harlem Globetrotters. 
 
The Lions play their home games in "The PIT", which is packed with students, faculty and staff, and other fans.  The noise and passion of the fans combined with the tradition of the gym creates an incredible home court advantage, regarded as the best in the GSAC.

Did we mention the beach? VUSC is 10 minutes from the sand. The location is not just great for the beach - we're 20 minutes from Disneyland and Knotts Berry Farm, 90 minutes from Sea World, 60 minutes from Universal Studios Tours, an hour and a half from the mountains, and an hour from Hollywood and Santa Monica.

The Lakers, Clippers, Dodgers, Angels, Chargers, Padres, Ducks and Kings all are within easy striking distance. Get more info on our location.

Lastly, Orange County's economy is strong. VUSC has an extensive network within the business communities of Orange and Los Angeles counties and our graduates have had tremendous job opportunities over the past several years.
