Athletic Hall of Fame


Statement of Purpose

  • To enhance Vanguard University and the VU Athletic Program
  • To honor selected former SCC/VU student athletes
  • To pay tribute to outstanding achievements of our people
  • To reestablish and maintain ties with former SCC/VU student athletes
  • To honor special service to the Athletic Program
  • To maintain camaraderie of those associated with the Athletic Program
  • To elicit continued identity and support for Vanguard University and the VU Athletic Program

Categories

  • Athlete - participated in any sport which has been sponsored by the Athletic Department
  • Coach - in any sport which has been sponsored by the Athletic Department
  • Honorary - any coach or student athlete who has brought honor to the SCC/VU athletic program by outstanding service
  • Meritorious Service - any individual who has made outstanding contributions to the athletic program or any sports sponsored by SCC/VU Athletic Department
  • Team - any team that has made an unusual or significant record of achievement

  • 1958-1959 Football Team
  • Dr. J.C. Holsinger - Meritorious Service
  • Bill Reynolds - Men's Basketball Coach
  • Elaine Whittemore Foytik - Women's Basketball Student Athlete
  • Gretchen Brandt Clements - Softball Student Athlete
  • Bill Severn - Football Student Athlete

  • Virgil Zeigler - Meritourious Service
  • Bryan Wilkins - Cross Country/Track & Field Coach
  • Sherri Hall-Curl - Cross Country/Track & Field Student Athlete

Athlete Criteria

  • The nominee must have graduated from SCC/VU.
  • The nominee is not eligible for nomination until five years after he/she is being honored.
  • The nominee must have attained recognition in the sport in which he/she is being honored.
  • The nominee must have been in good standing while competing on the team.
  • Suggested guidelines
    • All American, All Region, All Conference, All District (prior to 1994-95)
    • Holder of school, conference, district (prior to 1994-95), national or world record.
    • National Champion in any sport or a member of the National Champion All Tournament Team
    • World Champion in any sport

Coach Criteria

  • The nominee must have coached a minimum of ten years in the sport in which he/she is being recognized
  • Five years of his/her coaching experience must have been at SCC/VU.
  • The nominee must have attained significant recognition in his/her field
  • The nominee must have been judged to have made significant contributions to the SCC/VU student athletes, school, or sport.
  • Suggested guidelines for consideration
    • Season records
    • Conference, District (pre 1995), Area/Region or National Coach of the Year
    • Significant professional recognition

Honorary

  • Former SCC/VU student athletes or coaches may be nominated who have made an outstanding contribution to the SCC/VU athletic program through recognition of high achievement and who may not meet the required criteria in athlete or coach categories.

Meritorious Service

  • The nominee must have proven himself/herself in significant service to SCC/VU or in service to the sport in which he/she is being recognized.

Team

  • The team must have made an unusual or significant record of achievement.
