FOUNTAIN VALLEY, Calif. - The Vanguard Invitational hosted by Vanguard Cross Country has moved its location due to the recent fires in the hills surrounding Orange County. The event, in its 27th annual edition, will be run at Mile Square Park the 607 acre urban park located within the City of Fountain Valley. This change was required as Irvine Regional Park, the latest home for the event, was shut down after Canyon Fire 2 affected the area.
Much of the event will stay the same except for the location change. The event will allow both collegiate and club teams to compete and they will be scored separately. The Top 15 Individuals from both the 5K and 8K races will receive awards as well as the top overall team for each distance. The course, run at the same times of 9:00 a.m. for the Women's 5K and 9:45 a.m. for the Men's 8K, will be flat and fast, almost entirely on pavement. The course map for the Women's 5K and the Men's 8K are hyperlinked.
For those coming to the event, there are plenty of bathroom facilities near the start and finish area as well as large parking lots nearby for both vehicles and team buses. Parking on the weekend is $5 per entry and the park opens at 7:00 a.m. The address is for Mile Square Regional Park is:
