ORANGE, Calif. – Vanguard University (10-7) kicked off a two game slate of road non-conference matches by playing at NCAA Division III Chapman University (11-7). The tightly contested affair went the distance before the Lions prevailed 3-2 with set scores of 25-16,25-19,24-26,19-25,15-12. This marks the second straight five set victory for the Blue and Gold.
The Lions took care of business in the first set winning by a nine point margin thanks to stellar defense which held the Panthers to eight errors and only seven kills. The Pride opened with 14 kills and a .242 hitting percentage for the first set. Moving into the second set, the Lions bettered their offensive play by putting down 16 kills and posting a .250 hitting clip. In the third set, Vanguard had its best offensive output with 18 kills and .333 hitting, but the Panthers were able to outlast the Lions by two points. The fourth set proved to be a dominant one for Chapman as they posted 17 kills versus only 12 for the Blue and Gold.
