COSTA MESA, Calif. – The Lions (8-2, 3-0) faced off against the William Jessup Warriors (3-7-1, 0-3). This win earned the Blue and Gold a 7-0 record against the Warriors in the last six years. The Lions had control the entire game and ended the 90 minutes with a score of 4-0 and earning a third consecutive victory to start conference play.
The first goal came early for the Lions as Nathan Miramontes (SR/Fullerton, CA) was crossed the ball by Jose Castillo (SR/Orange, CA) in the fourth minute. Miramontes headed the ball in past the goal keeper and the Lions were on the board. The header was Miramontes' first goal of the season. Ten minutes later, Sebastian Cortez (JR/Hawthorne, CA) scored off an assist from Carlos Yepez, earning Cortez his eighth goal of the season.
After the break, Jared Gould (SO/Prescott, AZ) had a few strong moves forward, but in the 66th minute he finally broke through. Gould took the ball all the way up before passing it to Martin Arrieta (JR/Pasadena, CA) for the goal earning Arrieta his third goal. The final goal for the Lions was from Brian Torres (SR/Huntington Beach, CA) off of an assist from Cortez in the 74th minute. There were 20 fouls called in game, 13 on the Lions and seven on the Warriors, and each team was issued a yellow card. Brandon Gomez (SR/Los Angeles, CA) was in goal for the Lions for the first 75 minutes and earned three saves before Victor Negrete (FR/Stanton, CA) took over for the final 15 minutes.
