ANAHEIM, Calif. – For the second straight year, a member of Vanguard Baseball will switch out his Lions hat for one from the Los Angeles Angels. Brandon Sandoval (SR/Fallbrook, CA), the Vanguard Male Athlete of the Year and All-GSAC player, was selected in the 27th round with the 805th overall pick. Last year, Jose Rojas and Sean Isaac were taken in back to back rounds by the local team.
Sandoval was the lead-off hitter for the Blue and Gold the past three seasons in which he was named to the All-Conference team all three times including Gold Glove team recognition his junior and senior seasons. He was second in the GSAC with a .403 batting average in 53 games grabbing 81 hits and scoring 67 runs off 12 doubles, two triples, and eight home runs. He drove in 49 RBI's from the top of the order and tallied a .6-2 slugging percentage. He was walked 29 times and hit by the pitch 10 other times for a .498 on base percentage. On the season he was 33-37 on stolen base attempts.
