COSTA MESA, Calif. – The customary needs of Vanguard Baseball to replenish upwards of 10 graduating senior athletes each summer has fallen upon head coach Rob Pegg and lead assistant Michael Thompson. After finishing just one half game out of winning the Golden State Athletic Conference, the Lions move to replace the on field and classroom contributions of 11 players. Currently, the Blue and Gold have 12 players inked for the 2017-18 academic year.
Landon Anderson, a left handed pitcher from Mayfair High School in Lakewood, California held an 8-1 pitching record while ended with a 1.05 ERA this past season for the Monsoons.
Josiah Austin, a righty hailing from Sonora High School in La Habra posted stats of 9-2 win/loss records and a 1.24 ERA.
Michael Barker was a 2017 ABCL Division I All-Star, serving time in the outfield and pitching for Immanuel Christian High School in Ridgecrest, CA.
Cameron Hirahara holds a .352 career average at Arroyo Grande High School in Grover Beach, CA.
Playing for St. Mary's High School in Medford, Oregon Joe Johnson hit five home runs and a .539 average this past season.
Landn Kauk, the shortstop at Highland High School in Bakersfield hit 18 doubles along with a .486 batting average.
Luke Nobiensky blasted four homers at a .357 batting average at Rancho Christian High School in Temecula.
Chad Sutton, the third baseman of Pinnacle High School in Scottsdale, AZ, finished second place in the 6A State Championship behind a .365 batting average and five home runs.
Trip Vick, a big right handed pitcher from Joshua High School in Burleson, TX will move to take some of the departed innings from the graduated pitching staff from last year's squad.
Chris Rodriguez rounds out the current class as he transfers from Golden West Community College. The second baseman from Tustin has a .286 career batting average.
