LA MIRADA, Calif. - Following their overtime defeat against Hope, the Vanguard University Lions (6-21, 4-9) hoped to return to winning ways against the fourth ranked Biola University Eagles (25-3, 11-3). Despite pushing them to the very end, the Pride fell to their third consecutive defeat, losing 75-68. However, this does bring an end to a run of three games against ranked opposition, a daunting portion of the Lions' conference slate.

With the final score only separating the teams by seven points, it's no surprise to see that it was a back and forth contest. Although the Eagles put the first two points on the board, Kwinn Hanson (SR/Spokane, WA) responded with a layup only thirty seconds later. In fact, of the 12 points that the Lions scored in the opening 10 minutes, Hanson contributed with six points. Although the Eagles proved to be more accurate than the Blue and Gold on the night, Teslim Idris (SR/London, England) made his solitary shot count, sinking a three pointer to reduce Biola's lead to a single point. This is the closest that the Lions came to usurping the Eagles for the remainder of the contest. The Pride went into the second half trailing by nine points.

Back on the court with a point to prove, the Pride scored two layups in quick succession, courtesy of Hanson and Zach Allmon (SR/San Luis Obispo, CA). However, the Blue and Gold wouldn't score for the next six and a half minutes, before Christian Ware-Berry (JR/Pomona, CA) sunk two consecutive free throws. Nevertheless, The Lions would eventually outscore the Eagles 47-45 by the end of the second half. Unfortunately, the first half left the Lions with just a little too much to do. In a personal performance that he can take pride in, Victor Evans (JR/Winnetka, CA) scored 17 points on the night, capping it off with a dunk in the final ten seconds of the game.

Next Game: Saturday, February 18th at Arizona Christian University at 2:00 p.m.
