COSTA MESA, Calif.- Still flying high from their overtime victory against third ranked Westmont, the Vanguard University Lions (24-1, 12-0) swept aside the Hope International University Royals (5-17, 0-12) 82-40. This comprehensive victory extends the Pride's winning streak to 20 games, thanks in large part to the double double contribution of Claire Lamunu (SR/Kampala, Uganda). However, it was Maya Kennedy (SR/Huntington Beach, CA) who led the game in scoring, with an impressive 20 points on the night.

Considering that the Lions scored over twice as many points as the Royals, it's no surprise that they dominated in nearly every category. The only category that the Royals outscored the Pride in was points from the bench, with 16 compared to the Pride's 15. However, the game was tied two times and the lead changed one time, with the Royals getting the first two points on the board. Nevertheless, this lead was extremely short-lived, with Victoria Chea (FR/Murrieta, CA) tying the game up with a bucket two seconds later. With seven seconds left on the clock, a three pointer from Alyssa Durr (JR/Oregon City, OR) meant that the Blue and Gold went into the second period with a twenty point advantage.

Although the game was already well out of reach for the Royals, they did put up a fight in the second frame. As well as putting the first two points on the board for the second consecutive period, the Royals actually outscored the Lions 13-11. Nevertheless, the Pride still held an 18 point advantage going into the third period.

The second half of the contest saw the Blue and Gold really run away with the win. Kennedy ran rampant from the three point line, scoring all four of her second-half attempts. Tania Uluheua (JR/Auckland, New Zealand) came off the bench in the fourth period to make her presence felt, scoring four consecutive points. Durr made the most of her start, scoring twelve points to join Kennedy, Lamunu, and Chea in the double digit category.

Next Game: Tuesday, February 14th at Biola University at 5:30 p.m.
