COSTA MESA, Calif. – Vanguard put on a show against Biola on Saturday evening in front of a standing-room-only homecoming crowd. The victory was never in question as the Lions held a large advantage throughout before coasting to the 71-58 Golden State Athletic Conference win.

The Blue and Gold doubled the Eagles' first half total (40-20) behind a 12-point effort from senior Ennis Whatley Jr. (Columbia, Md.). Junior Preston Wynne (Wellpinit, Wash.) tallied 11 prior to the break for VU.

The Lions' intense defense created mayhem for the Eagles' offense, coming up with 14 steals in the contest. Whatley and sophomore Chris Gorman (Oceanside, Calif.) both garnered three steals in the first period and finished the competition with four apiece.

GSAC Player of the Week Gorman added 12 points, five rebounds, three blocks and two assists to his steal total and Whatley bolstered his statistics with 18 points, six rebounds, three assists and a swat.

Wynne completed his night with a game-best 20 points. He knocked down five from behind the arc in the effort.

Juniors Brendan Holmes (Huntington Beach, Calif.), Tino Zaragoza (Orange, Calif.) and Noel Larkins (Placentia, Calif.) each dished three assists for the unselfish Blue and Gold squad.

Vanguard (15-8 / 4-4 GSAC) has won two in a row and is in possession of the GSAC's longest winning streak.

The Pride travel to Santa Barbara on Tuesday, February 5th for a 7:30pm match-up with league leader Westmont (19-4 / 7-1 GSAC). The No. 5 Warriors suffered their first conference loss to San Diego Christian in El Cajon on Saturday night.
