Costa Mesa, California - Costa Mesa Tennis Center - Ranked No. 11 in the first regular season NAIA women's tennis poll of the year, Vanguard University hosted NCAA Division II CSU Los Angeles for a nonconference matchup at the Costa Mesa Tennis Center, VU's home court. Playing for the second time in two days, the Lions fell short as the CSULA Golden Eagles knocked off the Lions 8-1.

Cal State LA stormed quickly to 8-2 victories in the first two doubles matchups in the lineup. VU's Petronella Lindahl and Ashley Tebeau put up a strong fight, but eventually lost 9-8 in the final doubles contest, giving the Golden Eagles a 3-0 sweep and a three-point lead.

Singles play was also controlled by the Golden Eagles. CSULA earned straight set victories in the second, third, and fourth challenges to officially clinch the match. However, senior Ashley Tebeau continued to battle at number six as long as she could before losing in three sets (7-6(4), 1-6, and 10-5. Trailing 7-0, the Lions finally broke the shutout in the final singles match still ongoing. VU's top singles player Gabriela Bergmanova outlasted Christie Lau 6-3 and 7-5 to bring the final score to 8-1.

The Lions slip to 2-3 overall with today's loss, but will be right back in action tomorrow with another nonconference matchup. The Lions welcome NCAA Division II UC San Diego for an early afternoon battle at the Costa Mesa Tennis Center.
