Riverside, Calif. - Vanguard University's women's water polo team is scheduled for four games at the 2012 Lancer Invite, hosted by California Baptist University in Riverside.  The Lancer Invite runs from Feb. 17-18.

Fresno Pacific stormed to a 5-0 in the first quarter and extended the margin to 7-0 by the end of the first half. The Sunbirds tacked on two more goals in the third frame and put the game out of reach for good by scoring the first four goals of the fourth.

Vanguard ruined FPU's shutout attempt when Cara Deckert converted VU's first goal of day with less than a minute to play in the game, shaving the final score to 13-1.

The Lions returned to the pool for the late afternoon game with the Tigers from Occidental. Once again the Lions fell behind early. Occidental charged in front with seven goals in the first period. The Lions finally got on the scoreboard with 4:17 left in the first half, slicing the deficit to 8-1. The Tigers tacked on three more goals to end the first half with an 11-1 cushion. Oxy outscored the Lions 6-1 in the third period and were leading the Lions 17-2 heading into the fourth quarter.

The Lions outscored the Tigers 3-2 in the final eight minutes, but still fell short 19-5 in the end. The loss drops VU's overall record to 0-5 with nearly a full schedule remaining to play this spring. Go Lions!
