Costa Mesa, Calif. - Vanguard sophomore Kimberly Skoglund
was named the Golden State Athletic Conference Softball Player of the Week
today, in the final week of conference play and the last player of the week selection for the year.
Playing a nonconference double header at Chapman University and the final GSAC double header of the regular season at Hope International, Skoglund and the Lions played four games all on the road last week. The second-year player had an outstanding week at the plate, hitting safely in seven of 14 at bats, including four doubles.
Skoglund also collected four RBI's, stole two bases, and scored two runs to help the Lions win three of four games. She went 4-for-4 in the second game against HIU, hitting two doubles and driving in two of VU's three runs. Skoglund's hot bat helped her earn the first GSAC Player of the Week
award of her collegiate career.
VU's results from the week make the Lions the fifth seed of the upcoming GSAC Tournament (May 3-6, 2011
). Vanguard begins postseason play against No. 4 seeded Biola on Tuesday, May 3rd at Cal Baptist in Riverside.
